Autumn is a time for quite literally taking stock or ‘harvesting’ what you have accomplished so far during the year. Maybe you’ve had a really busy summer and are ready to fall back into a daily routine now the kids are back at school, or maybe you want to find some peace and stillness before the preparations for Christmas begin.
Either way, now could be the perfect time to introduce yoga into your weekly health and fitness routine. We all know that yoga is great for improving flexibility, posture and strength, but it is also a fantastic way to introduce a little stillness and calm into your life.
At the end of every yoga session, we take a period of time to slow down, relax and find inner stillness. This Savasana time is just as important (if not more so!) than the physical aspect of yoga. Read more about Savasana here.
If you’ve put off trying yoga because you’re concerned you won’t be flexible or strong enough, don’t worry! Yoga isn’t just about contorting yourself into the shape of a pretzel for an Instagram post (although you can absolutely do that if you wish!), it’s about becoming more aware of your body and listening to what feels right for your body.
If you are looking to start yoga, sign up for our weekly beginners’ class in Watford Village Hall and learn how yoga can benefit your mind and body.
We also run daytime classes at Lifting Room Crossfit in Weedon. these are faster paced classes and are also suitable for people with no yoga experience – although do be prepared for some more energetic moves!
We are also running a lovely evening candlelit yoga event at Lifting Room Crossfit on Sunday 29th October. To coincide with the clocks going back and to make the most of that extra hour before your working week begins, join us for an evening of lovely stretches and blissful calm. Surrounded by beautiful candlelight, you’ll be guided through a range of yoga asanas (postures) designed to counteract the stresses and strains placed upon our bodies by modern life. This will be followed by a deep relaxation session, snuggled under blankets, helping you to calm your mind and find some inner peace.
There’s even chance at the end of the class to have a warming cup of tea accompanied by lovely, sweet treats, whilst chatting with your fellow yogis.
Please bring your own mat, blanket and cushion. You may also want to bring extra layers so you can stay extra snuggly during the relaxation session. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own mat, we have a few spares or you can buy one from us at the special price of £10.
This class is suitable for all levels, including complete beginners. Those who train regularly or people who sit at desks all week will find the shoulder mobility and hip openers particularly beneficial.
