I’ve spoken to a lot of people recently about the function of the body chakras and how any imbalances can affect your overall feelings of wellbeing. I thought it would be useful to discuss them in a little more detail as they are something you may have heard of but aren’t really sure how they work or what they actually are!
So, what are Chakras?
The word ‘chakra’ comes from the Sanskrit, meaning ‘wheel’. There are seven main chakras in the body: Crown, Third Eye, Throat, Heart, Solar Plexus, Sacral and Root. Each chakra is associated with different drives, colours, parts of the body and feelings. When chakras are blocked or unbalanced, the body can display signs of dis-ease. In other words, you may be feeling generally under the weather physically, lacking in energy, emotionally drained, or even spiritually blocked. You may even be manifesting signs of the blockage through an illness. By realigning and clearing the chakras, we are enabling our bodies to heal themselves.
Reiki is an excellent way or working with the chakras and using energy to remove any blockages. This may not happen instantaneously and generally, a course of treatments would be recommended. If the imbalance is long term, there could potentially be a lot of stagnant energy that needs shifting in order for the chakra to start functioning properly again.
The diagram below indicates where each chakra is located and the corresponding colours:

The colour associated with this chakra is red. This chakra is concerned with our sense of survival and smell. It relates to bones and teeth. It is represented by a lotus flower with four red petals.
