Why you should be activating your glutes

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ll almost certainly have heard someone saying something about glute activation…but what does this really mean and why on earth should you be doing it?

In a nutshell, it basically refers to the kinds of exercises you can do to get the muscles in your butt to start working more efficiently.  We spend most of our day sat on them, meaning these muscles can get lazy.  If the glutes aren’t firing properly, you could be more prone to injury and may find that other muscles are becoming overloaded to compensate.  For example, it’s not unusual for someone to have lower back ache if their glutes are not working properly.
